Materials:
RH 4 ply Color A = White, Color B = Red, Color C = Royal Blue Crochet Hook: Size G or size needed for gauge. Size G for edging. Gauge: Each Square = 12".

Picot (picot): Ch 3, sl st in front loop of st below and parallel loop to left of it.
V Stitch (v stitch): (dc, ch 1, dc) in st or sp.
For Heart:
Round 1:
With Color A make a loop, leaving a long tail. Ch 3, 7 dc in loop. Continuing to work in loop, make 1 trc for point, 8 dc, 3 trc, 1 hdc, sl st, 1 hdc, 3 trc. Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. Pull loop closed to leave a 1/2" center.
Round 2:
Ch 1, sc in same st and next 7 sts, in trc work (sc, dc, sc) for point. Work sc in next 8 st. 2 sc in each of next 3 sts. Sl st in next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts. Join with a sl st in first sc.
Round 3:
Ch 1, sc in same st and in next st. Work picot (ch 3, sl st in front loop of st below and parallel loop to left of it), work sc in next 2 sts. Continue from * 11 times more. (12 picots). Work sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 3 sts, sc in next 2 sts. Work picot, ( sc in next 2 sts , picot) twice. Sl st in first sc. 15 picots. FO leaving a long tail to sew the heart to the completed square below.
12 Inch Square:
Round 1:
Make a loop, ch 3 and work 2 dc, (ch 2, 3 dc) three times, work hdc into top of ch 3.
Round 2:
Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, *in next corner ch 2 sp work ( 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 1. Continue from * around, ending 3 dc, hdc in top of ch 3.
Round 3:
Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, * 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, in corner work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 1. Continue from * around, ending 3 dc, hdc in top of ch 3.
Round 4-6:
Continue in this manner, increasing 3 dc each round on each side. End Round 6 with ch 2, sl st in top of ch 3. FO Color B.
Round 7:
Join Color A with a sl st in corner, work ch 4, dc. *(In middle dc of 3 dc, work v-stitch. Work v-stitch in next sp). (V-sts). Work corner v-stitch continue from * around, ending 3 dc, ch 2, sl st in third ch of ch 4. Sew Heart to Square. FO Color A.
Round 8:
Work beginning corner (ch 3, dc), work 2 dc in each V st across. Work corner (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). Continue around, finishing with 2 dc, hdc in top of ch 3.
Rounds 9-12:
Work beginning corner ( ch 3, dc), dc in each st across. Work corner (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), ending with 2 dc, hdc in top of ch 3.
Finish off and weave in all ends. Center heart on the square and sew on using the tail you left when making the heart. FO end.
