Six Inch Square

  Materials: 
RH 4 ply Color A = White, Color B = Red, 

Crochet Hook: Size G or size needed for gauge. Size G for edging.

Gauge: Square = 6".
 

Note:

Skill level: Easy.

Blocking: Block lightly and briefly with a warm damp pressing cloth on the reverse side of the square with a med-hot iron.

 

Pattern Stitches

Picot (picot): Ch 3, sl st in front loop of st below and parallel loop to left of it.

Instructions

For Heart:

Round 1: 

With Color A make a loop, ch 3, 7 dc in loop. Continue to work in loop 1 trc, 8 dc, 3 trc, 1 hdc, sl st, 1 hdc, 3 trc.  Join with a  sl st in top of ch 3.  

Round 2: 

Ch 1, sc in same st and next 7 sts, in trc work (sc, dc, sc) for point.  Work sc in next 8  sts.  2 sc in each of next 3 sts.  Sl st in next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts.  Join with a  sl st in first sc.

 

Round 3:

Ch 1 sc, in same st and next st work picot (ch 3, sl st in front loop and parallel loop of st below to left of it), work 2 sc.  Continue from * 11 times more, work 2 sc, 3 sl sts, 2 sc.  Picot, (2 sc, picot) twice.  Sl st in first sc.  15 picots.  FO leaving a long tail to sew the heart to the completed square below.

 

 

 

For Square

Round 1:

Make a loop, ch 3 and work 2 dc, (ch 2, 3 dc) three times, work  hdc into top of ch 3.  

 

Round 2:

Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, *in next corner ch 2 sp work ( 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 1.  Continue from * around, ending 3 dc, hdc in top of ch 3.  

 

Round 3:

Ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, * 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, in corner work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), ch 1.  Continue from * around, ending 3 dc,  hdc in top of ch 3.  

 

Round 4-6:

Continue in this manner, increasing 3 dc each round on each side.  End Round 6 with  ch 2, sl st in top of ch 3.  FO Color B.

 

Finish off and weave in all ends.  Center heart on the square and sew on using the tail you left when making the heart.  FO end.
