Katie's Bliss

Designed July 4, 2001 in honor of  the engagement of our daughter Katie Bliss to her longtime Sweetheart Russell.

This square features the "Bent Bullion" - a stitch I developed for my upcoming book of squares.

Materials: 
RH 4 ply Color A = Aran, Color B = Country Blue, Color C =  Country Rose

Crochet Hook: Size F or size needed for gauge.

Gauge: Square = 6".
 

Note:

Skill level: Intermediate.

Blocking: Block lightly and briefly with a warm damp pressing cloth on the reverse side of the square with a med-hot iron.

 

Pattern Stitches

Bent Bullion Stitch (Bent Bullion):

Yo 15 times LOOSELY, EVENLY, insert hook into next st, yo, draw up a loop, even with the 15 loops, yo, draw through all 17 loops, (wiggling the hook and rolling the yarn back and forth), do not ch 1, sl st in next st - Bent Bullion made.

Picot (picot): Ch 5, sl st in fourth ch from hook, ch 1.

Instructions

Beginning:

With Color C and size F hook, ch 4.  Join with a sl st.

 

Round 1:

(Wrong Side) Ch 1, 16 sc in ring.  Ch 1, turn.

 

Round 2:

(Right Side) * Ch 3, work (15 yo bullion in same sp), sl st in next st, sc in next st.  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in first ch 3.  FO Color C.  

 

Round 3:

Join Color A with a sl st in ch 3 sp.  Ch 5, dc in same sp.  * In next ch 3 sp work (dc, ch 2, dc).  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 5.

 

Round 4:

Sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 5, (counts as dc and ch 2), dc, ch 2, dc in same sp.  *In next ch 3 sp work heart (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc).  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 5.  FO Color A.    

 

Round 5:

Join Color B in space between hearts, ch 1, sc.  *Ch 5, sc in sp between hearts.  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  

 

Round 6:

Work 7 sc in each ch 5 sp around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  

 

Round 7:

Ch 5, dc in same st, ch 5, sl st in fourth ch from hook,  picot made, ch 1, dc, ch 2, dc in same st.  Ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st.  (Ch 1, sk 1, hdc in next st) 4 times.  Ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st.  Ch 1, sk 1,  *work corner (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 5, sl st in fourth ch from hook, ch 1, dc, ch 2, dc) in next st.  Ch 1, sk 1, dc.  (Ch 1, sk 1, hdc) 4 times, ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st.  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 5.  FO Color B.

 

Round 8: 

Join Color A with a sl st in corner picot.  Ch 1, * 3 sc in picot.  Work 2 dc in each sp across (18 dc).  Continue from * around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.

 

Round 9:

Work 3 sc in corners, 20 sc across each side.  FO Color A.  Finish off and weave in ends.
